The Next Generation of Cooling Refrigerants. An air conditioner or heat pump relies on its refrigerant to cool and dehumidify the air before it’s streamed back into your home. This liquid is housed within the coils of a cooling system, but one of the most common refrigerants that’s been in use for many years – the R-22 (Freon) is now being gradually eliminated because of environmental concerns. In fact, this phase-out was mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, the production of R-22 will end all together. Introducing R-410A Recognized by the EPA, R-410A is a chlorine-free and ozone-friendly refrigerant. This means it will keep your home cool without damaging the environment. Additionally, Lennox’s most highly efficient systems are engineered to use this AC refrigerant, which can help your system perform efficiently. The same Lennox systems are known for durability, quiet operation and improved dehumidification, so you’ll stay comfortable. Additional Considerations At Danco Heating & Cooling in Minocqua, our cooling products can work with R-410A. If you have a system that was made prior to 2010, you may want to consider replacing your cooling system now, before R-22 is hard to find. Some manufacturers sell alternate refrigerants such as R-407C, R-438A and R-422, however, they may not work with an R-22 AC or heat pump and could compromise your system’s performance.
